We have just discovered some open source software that hacks into PayPal accounts, so if you were thinking of putting a simple PayPal button on your website because it is low in cost - BEWARE! 



This screen shot of the website says it all. Clearly the intent is to hack into PayPal accounts and move money. The consequences of having an account with PayPal may be greater than the money you save!

Remember this ONLY refers to the "traditional"  PayPal system. Paypal recently purchased VeriSign Payment services. That system is a full service BANKING system that is under the normal banking rules and regulations,.THAT system is safe, it is also much more expensive.

The Real E-Commerce Solution

Secure and regulated payment gateways do cost more, but you also get more.  In addition to security, real payment gateways deposit the money DIRECTLY into your account. (PayPal holds your money and transfers it at intervals, or NOT AT ALL.  Go to Google and type in "paypal lawsuit" and you will get an idea of what I mean by "NOT AT ALL")

With real merchant account providers the security is regulated and insured by the federal banking system and that is NOT the case with the "traditional" PayPal system. This security and control does require more mangement and systems, therefore it DOES COST MORE!  There really is no free lunch.
