Website Marketing Strategy

You have a website, now what?

You have a website built, you are proud of it... now what?

There is a reason you spent thousands of dollars on a professional website for your business - to get more qualified clients, either directly or indirectly.  However, just having the website built will not bring clients to your doorstep.

You have to make it happen!

First Things First

Let's back up a second.  Before launching into website marketing strategy, campaigns, and ROI, let's just make sure you have the "marketing ready" site you think you do.

Just to be clear, a website can look cool, pretty, or professional, and not be ready to market your business online.  It all starts with the code!  You need to have the proper code structure in the back end to run successful marketing campagins, large or small, online.

See our blog article Under the Hood of Your Website for more on this.

You need to have your code evaluated by a professional before any money is spent on any marketing efforts - PERIOD!

Marketing Strategy Top 5 Tips

It is important to develop unique strategies for your specific business.  You need to focus on your overall marketing goals and address them in your efforts.  Not all things work for all businesses.  Below are some issues to consider before sitting down with a  professional to develop a website marketing strategy:

  1. Verify you have the proper code structure and components to be visible to search engines.
  2. Make sure you have some reliable way to track traffic to your website and behavior of your visitors.
  3. Make sure you have clear goals on what you want your website to do for your business.  From these goals, a professional will be able to advise you on technologies and campaigns that fit your needs and budget.
  4. Establish a budget.  We talk about this a lot, but professional web marketing does not come free.  However, you need to be honest with yourself on how much you can invest.
  5. Keep in mind your target audience, who they are, and how they interact with the Web.

It's All Part of the Plan

Now that you have some general ideas on what it will take to promote your website and, in turn, get more qualified clients, you need to have an action plan.

Have a strategy session with a professional.  In this session you will figure out what types of web promotion are a good fit for your target audience and how your current website can support these campaigns.  The result of this session is an action plan for the next 12 months.

You may decide to do some of the action items yourself or internally in your buisness.  However, most of these action items will need to be performed by a web marketing professional.  They will be able to work more efficently and effectively.

Ongoing Process

Depending on how agressive your marketing plan is, you will need to review your website and strategy plan on an ongoing basis.

The Web is a quickly changing environment.  There may be new technologies that you need to implement to stay in the competition.

You may have new marketing goals that need to be integrated into your Web marketing action plan.
