What are the Page Descriptions for?
On your worksheet you may have noticed that we have asked you to supply page descriptions for each of your pages.
Page descriptions are a part of the basic Search Engine Optimization process. This tells the search engines what is on each page. It will NOT appear on your web pages. However, they will appear in search engine results. So you want to take some time to write them because people will be reading them - just not on your website!
What do you mean they show up on the search engine results?
Ok, when you are using Google and you search for something, you get pages of results. You get a title, which is a link, and a sentence description of what the link goes to. Google uses your page descriptions here in the results. If you don't have a page description then Google will make one up for you... which is not always a good thing.
Page Description Tip:
You want to write your page descriptions so that they will not only tell someone what they will see on the web page, but also encourage them to click on your link.
